Qualifications

Education and Experience
- BS in Food Science, Food Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline; MS preferred.
- 5–10 years in new product development within CPG (snacks preferred).
- Proven track record of taking products from concept to shelf.
- Experience with fried or baked snack formats a plus.
- Budgeting and team leadership experience required.
Language Skills
This position requires the ability to read, write and speak English in order to: read requests for proposals; contracts, correspond and communicate with current and prospective customers, employees, auditors and make presentations when required.
Other Skills and Knowledge:
- Proficiency with word processing, presentation and spreadsheet programs
- Strong project management and analytical capabilities
- Deep understanding of ingredient functionality, processing, and scale-up
- Working knowledge of FDA labeling and food regulations
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and formulation software
- Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, matrixed environment

Good business judgment and flexibility will be required to keep up with constantly changing needs of customers and brokers. This requires some travel (10-15%). Will need excellent administrative and communicative skills to keep projects on track at the office or when traveling. This position requires occasional weekend work and regular workdays in excess of eight hours per day. Occasional lifting, bending, and carrying will be required due to shows and sample transport. R&D Manager

Position Summary:
As the R&D Manager at TH Foods, you will lead the development of new products and processes that fuel our innovation pipeline and support continuous improvement across our portfolio. This role is responsible for cross-functional collaboration with Sales, Marketing, Operations, Regulatory, and Quality to bring ideas from concept to commercialization while maintaining technical excellence, cost discipline, and regulatory compliance. This is a corporate position based in Loves Park, Illinois.
Essential Duties and Requirements include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Innovation Leadership: Drive product development initiatives aligned with company strategy—from ideation and feasibility to plant trials and commercialization.
- Project Management: Set priorities in collaboration with Commercial and Technical leaders; manage project timelines, technical deliverables, and resource planning for the R&D team.
- Cross-Functional Execution: Partner with Operations to coordinate production trials and ensure product scalability. Collaborate with Purchasing to deliver accurate BOM costs and support P&L inputs.
- Team Development & Leadership: Mentor, manage, and develop a high-performing team of R&D Scientists and technologists; conduct regular performance reviews, individual development plans, and foster a culture of innovation and accountability.
- Documentation & Compliance: Oversee R&D documentation, including process settings, thermal process documentation, and preliminary raw material information.
- Budget Ownership: Develop and manage the annual R&D budget, ensuring alignment with strategic priorities and cost targets.
- Market & Technology Trends: Stay on the forefront of food innovation, emerging ingredients, processing technologies, and consumer trends through active industry engagement.
- Risk & Safety Management: Promote a strong food safety and employee safety culture in every project and decision.
- Responsible for identifying and reporting food safety and personal safety items.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This job has the supervisory responsibilities for a staff of R&D Scientists and support personnel.
